The Mazda 6 isn't that good looking...people just have rose tinted blinders on because it has more curves than the last 6.
In its segment, yes. The 6 is good looking.
But as a monument to design, people won't be picked the 6 over the A7 any time soon...

A wild challenger appeared

The Mazda 6 is fantastic... for the money. Still not in the same league as the S7 though.

Sorry, but Rapide.
Also like the F10 M5.
I do really like the S7 though, interesting looking car. The proportions from various angles aren't perfect though. It's a little to Panamera'ish from the side for example:
Riding on what I assume is a similar platform as the S7, I'll take the Estoque!
![]() 08/19/2013 at 12:25 |

I staunchly disagree, that car is beautifully menacing.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 12:26 |

Just because you started with the second sexiest car doesn't mean that I cheated.
And for what it's worth, I agree with you, just, you know...

I've never been a BMW fan, where people normally love their grille, I hate it. Which kind of ruins every BMW forever since they never really change it much.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 12:31 |

I think the Rapide wins it. I didn't think there would be much in the way of challengers at the table against J Walter here.

FACT: You are correct, sir.

Rapide looks fantastic, but it is so stylized, that it borders on being cartoonish.
The F10 M5 is a brilliant car, but I think the looks are actually its weakest quality.
The S7 can look a little ungainly in pictures. In person though... NOT AT ALL.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 12:51 |

While I agree, it's no longer "on the market".
![]() 08/19/2013 at 12:53 |

Is a hatchback technically a sedan?

The front is too long and the greenhouse is too small.

I see them around DC pretty often, look great in person. The rear treatment is certainly unique, just not sure I actually like it. Plus from the angle you posted above, what differentiates it from an S6, S4, etc? I think they are equally attractive from the front 3/4 angle.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 12:55 |

The A7, S7, and RS7 all have sad, depressing asses.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 13:00 |

Depends on who you ask. And some cars can be hard to classify. But for the purposes of this debate, I'd say it is irrelevant, because there are no hatchbacks that look better than the S7 either.

I can't prove you wrong, because you aren't wrong. Rapide, 6-series GC are stunning, but the A7/S7/RS7 just looks so right.

that car's face
![]() 08/19/2013 at 13:42 |

Imho the F10 M5 doesnt even come close, and the Rapide would win if it didnt have that stupid front grill, and if it was a somewhat original design
![]() 08/19/2013 at 13:45 |
|
But some would argue that being a hatchback is an unfair advantage.
If you're including hatchbacks, then I think the CTS-V five-door is the best-looking.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 13:55 |
|
You mean the "Aston Martin grill"? And whose design is it copying exactly? I guess everyone is copying the MB CLS when it comes to 4-door coupes. Not getting defensive (I don't own a Rapide sadly), just curious.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 13:58 |
|
I mean that HUGE front grill. And it seems like every single Aston Martin since 2004 looks exactly the same from 20ft, includng the Rapide
![]() 08/19/2013 at 14:04 |
|
If you are saying that you think that the S7 is a hatchback, I am not sure I agree. I think most people refer to this as a "sportback", which is defintely blurring the line between sedan and 4-door hatchback, but in this case, I feel comfortable putting it in the sedan category. It's definitely not a wagon though.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 14:09 |
|
If you make the distinction between sportback and hatchback, then you must make the distinction between *back and sedan. Have cake xor eat cake.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 14:12 |

The '14s already out? I figured these were still avail.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 14:13 |
|
I CAN MAKE UP ANY RULES THAT I WANT AND YOU CANT STOP ME!
For serious though, I don't see any problem with classifying a "sportback" as being a subset of "sedan".
![]() 08/19/2013 at 14:31 |
|
I see a lot of people saying the Rapide, but everyone's forgetting that it looks like this now.
...with a huge gob.
And it has teeny rear doors that makes it look awkward.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 14:33 |
|
I honestly think that the S actually looks better. A car like the 7 needs more chromular detailing.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 14:34 |

2011 was the last year for the E90 M3.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 14:34 |

2011 was the last year for the E90 (sedan) M3.
Last E92 (coupe) rolled off the line just recently.

Not sure I agree...
Also, this would make you smile from the inside of the car...

I'm going to join in on the Rapide conversation. Having spent some quality time in the Rapide S this past week I can safely say that it is commanding (not cartoonish) and easily turns heads. The proportions work (even better than that of the Panamera) without destroying the curvilinear sensibility we've come to expect from the Aston line up.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 15:42 |
|
I think you missed the point of the Rapide. It wasn't meant to be a wholly original design but to be an off shoot of the Vantage series in so much as you weren't sacrificing seats and doors for power. Grill or not, we've simply come to expect this type of design sensibility from Aston's powers that be.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 16:44 |

Ma bad. I feel informed now.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 16:48 |

I only know because I bought one (just like the one in your picture) last year - an '08.
It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 16:56 |
|
If you can put something that REEKS in the back of an A7/S7/RS7, and not smell it in the cabin, I think we can accept your classification of it as a sedan.
The CLS and 6-series Gran Coupe both have traditional trunks. I'm pretty sure the A7's cargo area is open to the cab, like a Panamera.
*yup - and HOLY CRAP LOOK AT ALL THAT SPACE!
![]() 08/19/2013 at 17:01 |

I wish I had the means. I'm currently driving a '99 Grand Prix gtp that has an exhaust manifold gasket that needs replaced as well as its new trick it learned last week where it pukes oil every morning and is fine after that.
My only conclusion is that my car is pregnant.

No Tesla love on here?
![]() 08/19/2013 at 17:02 |

Also, I had a sad.
The S7/RS7 are four seaters. We have three kids.

For serious, what's your definition of a sedan in the context of judging "best looking?"
![]() 08/19/2013 at 20:43 |

Can't you just cut the lowest performer? ;)
![]() 08/19/2013 at 22:18 |

Honestly think Model S is one of the best looking sedans out there. Which is amazing when you think about everything else it does so brilliantly.
![]() 08/20/2013 at 08:16 |

I love the S7, but the Rapide wins it. I've been in love with that car since I saw one in person 2 years ago. Absolutely gorgeous.

Ha! Yet to be determined. Too early for layoffs.

I damn near forgot, which is a travesty - THE FISKER KARMA, DAMNIT:
![]() 08/20/2013 at 16:23 |

Honestly, the S7 looks ungainly from certain angles (see thedriver's comment), and the front is not aggressive like the RS6, which looks miles better.
In terms of sedans, the M6 Gran Coupe does it for me, though.
![]() 08/29/2013 at 15:29 |
|
Yes the Rapide, no way the M5. The E39 M5 was a looker, the E60 was certainly not, and the F10 is somewhere in between. But not close to the S7.
![]() 08/29/2013 at 17:40 |

You shouldn't be able to go from 0 to one-of-the-best-looking-sedans-the-world on your first try. It's not fair!
